    • Augmented and diminished intervals

Recommended to study before this course:

  • Diminished and augmented intervals

Augmented intervals are wider by one semitone than perfect or major intervals, while having the same interval number (i.e., encompassing the same number of staff positions). Diminished intervals, on the other hand, are narrower by one semitone than perfect or minor intervals of the same interval number.(Wikipedia)

  • Listening intervals

Without a musical context, the interval is usually perceived in the most familiar way:

    • d2 sounds like P1
    • A2 sounds like m3
    • d3 sounds like M2
    • A3 = P4
    • d6 = P5
    • A6 = m7
    • d7 = M6
    • A7 = P8
