Topic outline

  • Welcome!

With this course you can practise:

    • Chord structures in major and minor scale degrees

Recommended to study before this course:

    • Chords 2
  • Chord degrees in major key

A triad can be built on each note of a major scale.

    For example in C major:

Another example: In G major V degree triad is built on D (5th note of G major scale). The notes of the chord are D-F#-A.

    Chord labeling

    • Major: Root note, for example C.
    • Minor: Root and m, for example Cm
    • Diminished: Root and dim,  for example Cdim
    • Augmented: Root and +,  for example C+

There's also many other symbols but in this course symbols above aree used.

In major key, there's several major and minor triads and dim on 7th degree.

  • Chord degrees in minor key

A triad can be built on each note of a minor scale. The most common is the harmonic minor.

An example in harmonic A minor (7th note is raised G#):

In harmonic minor there's one augmented triad on 3d degree.
